cultural topic: food
Since the group progress presentation done in pre-session class and I looked into the causes factor of the project and now I am doing the food factor in Hakodate. To get more information about the fishing industry in Hakodate. A good choice is to go to the local morning market. However, I do not the chance to visit the morning market until now. So I interviewed three Japanese university girls Yuna, Yuka, and Misato. They said they went to morning market couple times to get cheap and fresh seafood. and Misato mentioned that the locals always to go to morning market to buy and eat delicious seafood. So I think, In the morning market, I can suppose to explore the social aspect of seafood shopping and the shopping etiquette involved in sales. I will examine and compare the price of dishes in stores. Then I can understand the movement of products in Hakodate's resource-based economy.
So Hakodate Asaichi, which is the famous morning market in Hakodate is the best choice we should go. It is on the corner close to Hakodate station, tempting visitors with an array of delectable fresh Hakodate produce. In this market, it boasts approximately 250 seafood products and souvenirs, not just fresh seafood. The opening time of this morning market is from 5 am (6 am during the winter) to noon. There are seafood, vegetables, fruit, and sweets will be just supported, such as crab steamed buns, kaisen-don (a bowl of rice with several kinds of sashimi). Enjoyed a spot of shopping at the market and be sure to check out the live crabs and shellfish in their massive tanks.
Squid is the famous specialty in Hakodate. So we will find out as many as possible squid foods in the morning market. Such as fresh squid sashimi, squid rice bowl even squid ink ice cream which is unique soft serve ice cream made from Hokkaido milk and squid ink. The morning market provides a game which catches the live, freshly-caught squids from the fishing pool, then just eat directly. it is Once someone has caught one, a chef will take the catch and prepare squid sashimi. Then we can see the quick preparation process of the squid sashimi which is worth seeing.
Next week our group will go to the morning market to do some research in the morning market and I will try all the products that I mentioned in this article, and I am sure that I will get more detail information to perfect the project.
